September 20, 2019 Allies in the School Setting: Creating Affirming Settings

Time:                    8:30 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. Registration

                              9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. Program

Speakers:             Nancy Mullen and Casey Baxter, Youth Outlook

Cost:                     $30.00 per person covers the expense for speakers, materials and lunch

      Credit:                   5 CPDU’s, Social Work CEU’s, and NASP will be provided

                                    Minimum of 10 participants required

About the Workshop

This workshop will teach participants about orientation and gender development and how to establish affirming settings in their schools. Nancy Mullen is the executive director of Youth Outlook, the first not-for-profit organization serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and non-binary youth and working to increase visibility and understanding of LGBT youth issues in DuPage, Kane, Whiteside, LaSalle, DeKalb and suburban Cook Counties in Illinois.  Casey Baxter is a youth leader at the Ottawa drop-in center and is one of the primary voices in welcoming new youth to the center

 

Anticipated Outcomes

  • Increase the knowledge and skills of school and district leaders who guide continuous professional development
  • Deepen participants’ content knowledge in one or more content (subject) areas
